Abstract

A field experiment was conducted to compare the performance of promising genotype VL 907 against the check varieties of wheat ‘HS 240, VL 738, VL 804’ and triticale ‘TL 2942’ in irrigated ecosystem under timely sown(4­11 Nov.) and late sown (25­30 Nov.)conditions at Malan and Bajaura. Significantly higher grain yield was produced by promising genotype VL 907 both at Malan (41.3 q/ha; 12.8%) and Bajaura (46.6 q/ha; 15.0%) compared to VL 804. Delay in sowing resulted in significant reduction in yield both at Malan (10.9 q/ha; 26.9%) and Bajaura (9.5%). VL 907 produced grain yield of 46.5 q/ha (Malan) to 48.7 q/ha (Bajaura) under timely sown conditions (4­ 11 November). Another experiment on same set of varieties tested at graded levels of nitrogen (40, 60 & 80kg N/ha) was conducted under rainfed conditions. Promising genotype VL 907 produced significantly more yield at Bajaura (31.5 q/ha) compared to checks and also at Malan location (18.0 q/ha) compared to checks VL 738 and VL 804. Crop responded significantly upto 80 kg N/ha (recommended level) at Bajaura. Significantly higher test weight was recorded by the test variety at both the locations. Thus, VL 907 proved to be a promising genotype both under irrigated and rainfed timely sown conditions of mid hills of Himachal Pradesh.

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted at CSKHPKV , Rice and Wheat Research Centre, Malan, during 2009­10, to evaluate dual (grain and fodder) purpose three barley genotypes viz. BHS 169, HBL 276 and BHS 380 for cutting management (cut 70 days after sowing and no cut ) and irrigation (no irrigation and one irrigation). One cut at 70 days provided more than 4 tonnes/ha green fodder but lowered grain yield by 5.54 q/ha compared to no cut (29.04 q/ha). Significant improvement in growth (plant height), effective ears/m2, number of grains/ear and grain yield (by 14.6%) was brought by irrigation compared to rainfed crop (24.48 q/ha). Thus, farmers can grow BHS 169, HBL 276, BHS 380 dual purpose varieties to get both green fodder during lean period (January) and grain yield in mid hills of Himachal Pradesh.

Abstract

Three mustard (Brassica juncea L.) hybrids viz., DMH 1, NRCHB 506 and PAC 432 were evaluated in comparison to Kranti grown at five planting geometries (30×10 cm, 30×15 cm, 60×10 cm, 45×10 cm, 45×15 cm) during rabi 2010­ 11 at CSKHPKV Hill Agriculture Research & Extension Centre, Dhaulakuan. Number of branches/plant were significantly more in PAC 432 (20.1) which were similar to DMH 1 (19.6).Plants were significantly taller at 30×10 cm (212.4 cm) whereas number of branches per plant was more at wider row spacing (45×15 cm and 60×10 cm). Hybrids DMH 1 and PAC 432 took 128 days to mature followed by NRCHB 506 (120 days) and Kranti (119 days). It was concluded that hybrid DMH 1 was highest yielder (14.65 q/ha) due to higher harvest index and more branching and should be grown at 30 cm×10­15 cm spacing or even at 45×10 cm geometry.

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted at CSK HP Krishi Vishvavidyalaya, Rice and Wheat Research Centre, Malan during kharif 2016 to find out the bio-efficacy of new herbicide rinskor 2.5% EC in wet seeded rice (sowing of sprouted rice seeds in puddled fields). Four herbicide treatments comprising single herbicide rinskor at two doses (31.25 and 37.5 g a.i./ha 4-7 leaf stage of weeds), bispyribac sodium 30 g a.i./ha 3-4 leaf stage of weeds, and sequential application of pyrazosulfuron ethyl (25 g 3-5 days after sowing; DAS) followed by (fb) metsulfuron methyl + chlorimuron ethyl (4 g 25-30 DAS) were evaluated along with weed free (three hand weedings; 20 40 & 60 DAS), two hand weedings and weedy check. The crop was heavily infested with weeds (288.7/m²) viz., Monochoria vaginalis, Commelina benghalensis, Digitaria sanguinalis, Paspalum paspalodes, Echinochloa colona, E. crusgalli, Eleusine indica, Phyllanthus niruri and Setaria glauca, thus recording significantly more dry matter of both grass and broadleaf weeds compared to different weed control treatments. The weed index (increase in yield over weedy check) of different weed control treatments recorded values of 23.1 to 43.6 per cent; highest being with rinskor 37.5 g/ha. Rinskor at both the doses, bispyribac and sequential application of pyrazosulfuron ethy Jb metsulfuron ethyl + chlorimuron behaved alike in reducing weed density and were at par with two hand weedings. Rinskor and bispyribac were statistically equally effective in reducing dry matter of broad leaf weeds and were at par with weed free treatment. The significant effect of weed control treatments was reflected in growth and yield attributes of the crop. Rinskor 37.5 g/ha recorded tillering (336/m²) and panicles (320/m²) and grain (4.35 Mg/ha) at par with its lower dose (31.25 g/ha) and weed free treatment (weeding at 20,40 & 60 DAS). Thus, the new herbicide, rinskor 37.5 g/ha may be applied at 4-7 leaf stage of weeds (25 DAS) for efficient control of mixed weed flora in wet seeded rice.

Abstract

The experiment was conducted during summer seasons of 2015 & 2016 at the Research Farm of Highland Agriculture Research and Extension Centre, Kukumseri, Lahaul-Spiti district of dry temperate zone of Himachal Pradesh. The study revealed that the tribal farmers of Lahaul & Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh can take Frenchbean seed production of 'PalamMriduala' cultivar by sowing the crop in north-south row direction (more seed yield by 15.7% & Rs 1,31,467 as net returns/ha) at row spacing of 30 cm (more seed yield 22.7% &Rs 1,41,404 as net returns/ha) and by applying 62.5 N, 125 kg P₂O₅ and 62.5 kg K₂O/ha (7.25 % more seed yield & Rs.1,31,467 as net returns/ha) as basal application to realize more productivity and profitability compared to sowing in east-west at 45 cm row spacing and 100 % of recommended dose of fertilizer.
